Description:
Jubilee Hotel wages sheet
This 4-page section has 2 pages recording the wages for Ina Holman, housemaid waitress and 2 for Jean Maddock, cook.

The tax paid is shown by coloured yellow and green stamps on the right hand side of each page. These taxes were a levy on all wages to provide relief to unemployed people during the Depression. This was commonly known as the 'wage tax' and was at the rate of threepence per pound at this time. The yellow stamp is threepence (3D) and the green stamp is 5 pence (5D).

The stamps were stuck on the page next to the entry they referred to and were 'cancelled' by the employee signing, initialling and/or dating them.
