In 1930 the Tahiwis travelled from Otaki to Sydney to record 20 waiata for Parlophone, including "He Puru Taitama", 'Raukawa' and 'Otaki'.
In 1963 a pristine set of these original recordings were found in a private collection in Australia. In the 1990s the songs were digitally remastered and re-released.
